The only problem with this item is I did not update it before we left and there were some street changes made, so actually it was my fault. We recently used this item for vacation. We just loved it.It helped us from getting lost and we were able to find where we wanted/needed to go.The speed function also helped us from going too fast over the speed limit.I would recommend this product for travelers even once a year ones like we are.
The reason was that in Oklahoma City there are two streets with the same name, both going North and South with the same street addressing scheme. The maps are good. I have only had one problem while traveling in Oklahoma which cost me an half our of extra driving time.Somehow, Tom Tom knew my exact location but sent me to the wrong location. I have owned this GPS unit for over a year and have kept currwent with the USA & Canada maps. However, these streets are at opposite ends of the city. Also, this unit will get you to your location within 40-50 yards. The battery will not hold a charge for more than two days while in storage(it's case, on a shelf). The BAD feature with this unit is that the battery is NOT replaceable. I use the battery charger when I am traveling for more than an hour to keep the unit operating.
I woulddefinately recommend the "Tom Tom One XL 4.3" to anyone. My first GPS and I am totally satisfied. Made 2 trips recently andit is wonderful not to have to look for road signs etc.
This is cheaper than Garmin's charges. You are allowed one free update for newest map coverage which I did. That is a good feature since things are changing fairly quickly with new subdivisions, etc. Speaker volume, brightness, and satellite aquisitions are very adequate.
Purchased this 5 months ago to replace an older Garmin 350. The only drawback is that this unit does not tell you the street names, it just says to turn in 300 ft. and it's done 4 times during the year. Map update for the Garmin was too pricey.
You can do map updates from TomTom for $10 each quarter if you want to. or 500 yards depending on what speed you are traveling. The TomTom is an excellent gps. I live down in New Orleans and there has not been any problems with locating streets in the 150 mile radius that I travel to back and forth.
I just use this in my work truck and it has performed great. After buying and trying this for a couple of weeks now I really like it. I ordered it to put in a new ford lariet I was going to buy but by the time it came I had bought the King Ranch that has gps built in.
